5. What would make the Open Evening even better?

  • Learning where to bring the children to start school.
  •  Being able to get bearings of key locations in the school.
  •  Option of different dates, times of day or bringing children.
  •  An idea of what learning looks like and how behaviour is managed.
  •  Examples of children’s work at different stages.
  • 2 parents stated that there was no need to improve, it was great.

6. How useful did your child find their visit to school in July?

  • 2 parents – Excited to start school.
  • 8 parents – Very useful.
  •  Very much
  •  2 parents – enjoyed it and it encouraged them.
  • Helped with transition to make school a less scary place.
  • Photographs of my child were taken to aid their transition over the summer.
  •  Good but could do with more visits.
  • Useful to get an idea of what to expect.

7. As you know, we phase the children into school gradually to help us get to know your child, to help them get to know us and to help them settle within a smaller group.

We would really value your feedback of your child’s start at school.

  • 6 parents – Excellent start.
  • 2 parents – My child settled really well.
  • 2 parents – Phases start works really well.
  • I like the phase start. My child was in red group so had a few half days then in full time. I think this helped with transition.
  •  My child enjoys school.
  • Good idea to settle in small groups but it seemed big gaps between the first and last group starting.
  •  Yellow group (summer born children) start first.
  •  My child turned up on the wrong day but staff allowed him to start.
  • Positive start, school were helpful and supportive.
  • Graduated start hampered my summer born child with low confidence.
  • Content provided by the school regarding my children education was superb.
  •  More parent information needed e.g. where to find the field gate.
  • My child settled really well, but when the children were split into classes this did affect them.

Follow up actions for Foundation Stage transition from the 2016/17 questionnaire.

Parents wanted the children to have more visits to school so now this has increased to two sessions each.

Parents wanted to know where to drop off children – so this is what they are doing for one session.

Staggered intake - parents felt that this hindered the transition especially if they are summer born children.  The children in the intake for academic year 2017/18 are all staring at the same time slowly increasing from half a day to full time.
